C-S-H gel fills pores on concrete's surface

C-S-H gel can increase the lifespan of concrete by filling the pores on its surface. It works by reacting with the cement's calcium (Ca(OH)2) to form additional C-S-H gel. In a study by Land and Stephan, the early strength agent of cement was examined, and their findings revealed that the nano size of C-S-H had a more positive influence on strength development than that of nano SiO2.

The higher C-S-H gel formation, the more compact the cementitious matrix. It can also fill the pores created by OPC and mPOFA. Using both POFA and OPC is necessary to achieve the right balance of silicon and calcium ions. However, a high proportion of one or the other will not increase C-S-H gel production.
